New Dealer for Sierra Europe in Germany and Benelux
NETHERLANDS | Sierra Europe continues its aggressive worldwide expansion with the unveiling of its new exclusive dealer for the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. The new dealer heading the operations in the above mentioned countries is the well-known Dutch company MBH Bronneberg & Jegerings, based in Helmond, Netherlands.
Metso to Rebuild Sabah Pulp Mill in Malaysia
MALAYSIA | Metso Paper will provide Sabah Forest Industries (SFI), a subsidiary of India’s largest paper compa ny, Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT), with a major rebuild of its pulp mill in Sabah, Malaysia. The rebuild project will be started during the second half of 2009.

ACR+ Confirms Achievability of Recycling and Prevention Targets
BRUSSELS | Recent studies from the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and sustainable Resource Management (ACR+) confirm the achievability of the recycling and prevention targets for municipal waste proposed by the Environmental Committee of the European Parliament in April 2008, within the context of the review of the Waste Framework Directive.

Finnish Recycling - The Practical Way to Recycle and Reuse
The basic idea of recovery and recycling is presented by the EU Commission in December 2000, stated in the 6th Environment Action Programme: “The aim is to recover and recycle wastes to levels that make sense i.e. to the point where there is a net environmental benefit and it is economically and technically feasible.” Unfortunately, every now and then, both the net environmental benefit and economical and technical feasibility is forgotten.

In the context of the revision of Directive 2002/96/EC on WEEE, the WEEE Forum, a European association of 44 e-waste collection and recovery systems, defends the position that standards, as opposed to detailed legislative requirements, are the most appropriate instrument to promote state-of-the-art treatment and recycling technologies. Base Metals - Ready for the Summer Break
At the start of the year, RECYCLING m@gazine published a survey of a poll of researchers that listed their forecasts of average base metal prices for this year. The survey, which reported the forecasts of 22 analysts, threw up some interesting differences of opinion and so we thought it might be worthwhile at the mid-point of the year to see how things were panning out. Once again, we would note that to a considerable extent price movements have depended on the behaviour of funds and commodities generally have benefited from a weaker dollar and safe haven buying against stock market weakness. However, in the case of individual metals, fundamental developments have played their part in determining direction and it is such developments we examine below.
